The crew aboard the International Space Station have grown two batches of mixed greens (mizuna, red romaine lettuce and tokyo bekana cabbage), and are now running two Veggie facilities simultaneously.

NASA Commentator Lori Meggs at the Marshall Space Flight Center speaks to researchers Robert Ferl and Anna-Lisa Paul of the University of Florida about their Advanced Plant experiments on the International Space Station, in which they have already learned a great deal—and gotten some interesting surprises—about how plants grow in space.

The ability to grow food in space will be very important to support future missions beyond low Earth orbit into deep space.

We were talking about it a while ago. I took him to see the movie 'Martian' and they were growing food on Mars in the movie, so he was asking me about growing food up there

He was not impressed with his freeze dried space ice cream, so think he'll be glad to know you can grow veges up there
