 Resurrection Fern Empty Resurrection Fern

Post by Dragon Sun Apr 04, 2021 3:49 am

The resurrection fern gets its name because it can survive long periods of drought by curling up its fronds and appearing desiccated, grey-brown and dead.

However, when just a little water is present, the fern will uncurl and reopen, appearing to "resurrect".

It has been estimated that these plants could last 100 years without water and still revive after a single exposure

Resurrection Fern Empty Re: Resurrection Fern

Native to the rocky desert regions of the Mexican Chihuahuan desert, this ancient spikemoss is a special lycophyte often found moving about in a similar fashion to tumbleweeds.

The plant can lie in waiting for years without water, however, similar to wildflowers in a desert, this clump of nondescript, brown foliage explodes to life when water is added into the equation.

This is why it perfectly represents the coming of spring and has been dubbed the ‘resurrection fern’.
